Carl is the Executive Director for Brand at BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. A Chartered IT Professional (CITP), Carl has worked in the IT industry for more than 25 years’ starting his career as a website designer & developer.  His experience spans a range of domains including IT, digital transformation, operations and marketing.  His previous roles at BCS include Director for Business Technology, and Director of Operations overseeing the delivery of all technology strategy and operational capability within the business.  Carl’s current role as Brand Director sees him leading the Institute’s brand development strategy, group marketing activity and BCS’s programme of awards and flagship events which includes the UK IT Industry Awards. Carl is one of our experienced judges at the UK IT Industry Awards, now judging in the awards for more than 10 years. He is also a Trustee Director of a Multi-Academy Trust, serving as Vice-Chair of the Board and Chairing the Trust’s Risk & Audit Committee.

Alina Timofeeva is a multi-award-winning Associate Partner at Oliver Wyman (a global management consulting firm), TEDx speaker & Mentor. She helps leaders of Fortune100 companies to leverage Technology Dexterity so they increase their value for customers and shareholders. As a first-generation immigrant from Russia, who despite the odds, achieved ultra-fast growth in a male dominated technology industry, she actively gives back to the community. Alina helps those from underprivileged background & immigrant communities who face challenges similar to those she experienced to see failure as an opportunity to grow.
Milla Mazilu

Milla Mazilu

Principal Programme Controls Manager for Network Rail’s Wales & Western Region and winners of IT Project Team of the Year 2022

Milla began her railway career in 2005, initially working with Union Railways on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (now known as High Speed 1) and then with Network Rail, the railway infrastructure owner and operator for Great Britain. Over the years, Milla has focused on programme controls, planning, scheduling, and integration in the railway industry. More recently, Milla has honed in on modernising processes and systems to improve project delivery. In her current role in Wales & Western Region, Milla is leading initiatives in project data analytics across the capital delivery portfolio.

Milla is a keen volunteer, having supported the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways as a permanent way worker, the Royal Academy of Engineering with project CARE, as well as the Association for Project Management in a variety of roles. Her work with Network Rail and the Royal Academy of Engineering was recognised with the honour of a British Empire Medal.

Within APM, Milla has been a passionate and active volunteer, joining the Planning, Monitoring & Control SIG in 2014 and becoming the group’s chair in 2016. That same year, Milla was elected as a charity trustee of APM, where she has served on the board committees for Professional Standards & Knowledge, Remunerations, Advocacy & Nominations, and Audit & Assurance. Most recently, in 2022, Milla was elected as the chair of the APM board.

Milla’s passion is for innovation and lifelong learning; she will either be found working, volunteering, or learning something new.
Gill Friend

Gill Friend

Head of Communications at Digital Health & Care Wales and winners of Best Place to Work in IT 2022

Gill has worked in NHS communications for over 30 years, in both England and in Wales. She was in at the outset of health IT leading on the development of user guides for key UK preventive healthcare screening systems. While at the Health and Social Care Information Centre she was instrumental in pioneering a new way to present healthcare statistics to the public and media.

Passionate about the power of the written word she began her career as a journalist working for Mirror Group newspapers.

Over the years, Gill’s experience within health and care communications has covered public relations, media management, website development, events, campaigns, social media, copywriting and internal communications
